Black History Showcase 2016 was outstanding. There was a lot of drama that people enjoyed, the beautiful singing would have given the audience goosebumps; the dancing was incredible and the guest speakers left an amazing message for students, as well as giving a heart warming performance.
We managed to ask Lady Sanity some questions, she said, “My inspiration was America, I wanted to do what they did but I wanted to bring it over here and it was mainly my mom and my sister. I would tell people to be themselves and do what they want to do as long as it makes them happy.”
Former Holyhead student Miss Unique, a self taught guitarist put on a performance and wowed the audience with her angelic voice.
Parents left feeling overjoyed at the performances and impressed with the Holyhead students. One parent we spoke to said, “We found the drama really interesting, it was entertaining and historical.”
Our teacher, Mrs Richards who organised this wonderful evening said she had been planning this evening since the end of last years, she was looking forward to new things and themes she thought of as well as saying, “This evening was definitely a success as the performers, singers and everyone else were brilliant and the food was delicious.’’
Mr Bayliss, our headmaster said, “I feel quite sad as this is my last Black History Showcase, but it’s the best one I have ever been to. It’s very special and very different from ones in the past. It’s unbelievable what the students are doing now - it is a very powerful and positive message.”
Overall the night was a success as parents, students, performers and staff left the building with big enthusiastic smiles on their faces.
