NEW FOOD STANDARDS

January 2015

Important information in relation to school lunches and allergens

A new piece of European legislation – The Food Information for Consumers Regulation (EU FIC) comes into force on the 13th December 2014.

This new regulation builds on current allergen labelling provisions for pre-packed foods and will introduce a new requirement for allergen information to be provided for foods sold pre-packed, sold loose or open food served.

What does it mean for our school?

The EU law has listed 14 allergens that need to be identified if they are used in any of the food and “loose” drinks served to our pupils.

We won’t have to stop serving anything that we currently serve, but the catering team must be aware and have information to hand, if asked, on the contents of all food and “loose” drinks served.

This new legislation does not replace or alter any of the care plans/ procedures that may be in place for students that have allergies already.

The allergens we now have to hold information on are:

CELERY

CEREALS CONTAINING GLUTEN

CRUSTACEANS

EGGS

FISH

LUPIN

MILK

MOLLUSCS

MUSTARD

NUTS

PEANUTS

SESAME SEEDS

SOYA

SULPHUR DIOXIDE

Our Catering Supervisor has attended a training workshop and is now armed with the knowledge and the tools ready to comply with the changes in Decemebr 2014.

The school have purchased some Allergen Information baords that will be on display in the school dining school hall what will advise students where to seek infoirmation, should they wish to make enqueries about ingredients used in dishes prepared on site.

If you or your child requires any further assistance with this information or Allergen information in general, the Catering Supervisor or Catering Consultant can be contacted via the following emails:
