Dear Parents and Governors,

Attached is the latest report from the inspection undertaken by Ofsted on the 4th and 5th of February 2020.

It captures much of the amazing outcomes achieved by staff, students, parents and Governors by working together on behalf of the local community. It makes me very proud to read such a positive affirmation of our collective efforts. You should be proud too!

The judgement of the school’s overall effectiveness is ‘good’.

It is a shame that we are no longer considered to be one of the 35% of schools rated as ‘outstanding’ on the previous inspection framework. Since the introduction of the new common inspection framework in September, only 5 schools out of 200 inspected have reached the enhanced threshold. It now becomes something to work towards over the next four to five years. There is no reason at all why this position should be reserved for private/Grammar/independent schools or for Multi-Academy Trusts in more affluent areas.

The students conducted themselves impeccably during the two days and amongst the many notable examples of excellence reported, it was the proud, happy and aspirational nature of our respectful students that really shone through. They are a very special group of young ambassadors for Handsworth!

I have now amended the School Improvement Plan in order to address the recommendations of the Lead Inspector. We will continue to work tirelessly to improve the life chances of those we care so much about.

I would like to take this time to thank you for your continued support. It's this spirit of partnership and togetherness that enabled us to receive such praise and recognition.

Yours faithfully,

Mr R Trafford
