Curriculum Overview Humanities Department 2018-2019

In Years 7 & 8 students complete Geography, History and RE lessons in termly rotational slots. This means that students have 4 humanities lesson per week.

RE - Students who have chosen to study RE at GCSE cover the AQA specification A. We focus on the beliefs and practices of two religions and study four themes including family and relationships, human rights and social justice, crime and punishment and religion and life.

History - Students who have chosen History at GCSE will follow the Edexcel History specification. The specification focuses on five topic areas; the British sector of the Western Front (Injuries, treatment and the trenches), Medicine through time, the development of the American West, Weimar and Nazi Germany and Early Elizabethan England.

Geography - Students who have opted for Geography GCSE will follow the OCR B specification. The specification focuses on eight core topics, four of which are human and four physical.

Western faith - study of Judaism, Islam and Christianity

Easter faiths - study of Sikhism, Buddhism and Hinduism

Medieval Realms- conflict, power, disease and protest


The making of the United Kingdom- The Wars of the Roses, religious divisions, Tudor monarchs, the power of the monarchy, the Stewart kings, movement and settlement.
