UCAS Information & Qualification Offering Update

Holyhead is a highly successful Inner Ring 11-18 Academy. The neighbourhood is in the top 10% of deprived areas nationally and 56% of students are entitled to free school meals. There are over 1,300 students on roll including 265 in the Sixth Form, with the vast majority of year 13 students seeking university places. In September 2018 all Year 13 students intending to go to university took up places at their chosen university. The A Level results in the summer of 2018 were 46% A*-B, 83% A*-C and 100% A* - E, of which the academy and community are rightly proud.

Since the release of new specifications and the de-coupling of AS/A Level qualifications, Holyhead has chosen to offer the decoupled AS examinations in all reformed A Level subjects first taught since 2015 apart from Geography. It is our belief that this provides students with valuable preparation for their A Level exams and provides staff with externally assessed results alongside ongoing internal assessments to accurately inform predicted grades. This policy continues to be reviewed on an annual basis.
