On October 10th, all Year 7 students and some sports students took part in a fundraising activity through Sports For Champions UK. This company helps to raise funds for young grassroots athletes who are trying to turn professional but do not have access to any funds to help support this.

The event involved students taking part in a sponsored Fitness Circuit which was run by Great Britain High Jumper David Smith. David came into school and delivered an assembly to all Year 7 students, and students studying BTEC Sport and Hospitality and Catering.

The assembly gave students a first-hand look and explanation of what it takes to become an elite athlete or sportsperson. David discussed his history, how he got into athletics; and the daily training and dietary regime that he has to follow to maintain his prowess in his sport.

After the assembly, students took part in the fitness circuit in groups, and students had lots of fun taking part. Alongside this, students got to see David’s World Champions Silver Medal, which was very impressive.

One of the student’s aims was to get as much sponsorship as possible and this would be rewarded with a signed picture with David. The students who raised the most money were Alysha - £150, Romiqua - £55, and Sophie - £35. The total raised for the athlete was £475. This was a great event, which was lots of fun to take part in for the students, and it also raised valuable funds to help David continue with training.

Well done to everyone who took part.
