Homework at Holyhead 2025-26

At Holyhead, we believe homework plays a vital role in reinforcing classroom learning and developing independent study habits. Students are encouraged to engage with digital platforms such as SENECA, MathsWatch, Google Classroom, and the Pearson online revision tool (Year 10 and 11) to consolidate their understanding and extend their learning beyond the classroom. We also promote regular review of class notes and the use of our Fundamental 4 revision strategies, which help students retrieve key knowledge and build lasting memories of core concepts. This blended approach ensures that homework is purposeful, manageable, and directly supports progress in lessons.

How can parents help?
🕒 Establish a routine: Encourage a regular time and quiet space for homework each day.
📵 Minimise distractions: Help your child stay focused by limiting phone use and background noise.
📚 Check in regularly: Ask what tasks they have and help them plan how to tackle them.
✅ Encourage independence: Support them without doing the work—ask guiding questions instead.
🧠 Promote active revision: Suggest using strategies like our Fundamental Four brain dumps, mind maps, revision cards, and self-quizzing.
📅 Help with organisation: Use planners or calendars to track deadlines and break tasks into manageable chunks.
💬 Stay in touch with school: Please feel free to contact us if you’re unsure how to help.
