In our Art lessons we are creating digital silhouette portraits showing why we are ‘Proud to be’. Year 9 students were asked to fill in an image that represents their identity with all the things that make them who they are. There have been some very interesting results. The Year 9s have been very creative with their ideas. We are also aiming to enter work into two different competitions; both have money as prizes – so it is well worth entering. More importantly, some of the winning pieces will be exhibited in and around the Handsworth community!
In Year 8, students have been working in the style of Kehinde Wiley. An American artist who painted Barack Obama. Students selected a celebrity from Birmingham to focus on and highlight their achievements. We have has some wonderful pieces.
Black History Month UK is an International annual month, celebrating, recognising and valuing the inspirational individuals and events from within the BME communities. During Black History Month, we remember and celebrate the important people from the past who contributed to and help our society today. After selecting their chosen celebrity or family member that they are inspired by students have added a colourful oil pastel mono-print into the background.
Art Club has also been creating Kehinde inspired portraits and creating tonal pencil faces and colourful Thaneeya McArdle backgrounds.
