Holyhead Black History Month Showcase - Thursday 24th October 4-5.30pm

Dear Parent/Carer

RE: Holyhead Black History Month Showcase - Thursday 24th October 4-5.30pm

We would like to invite you to our annual Holyhead Black History Month Showcase.

The students have been working hard with their subject teachers to produce work for Black History Month and the Black History Club launched to their fellow students an activity to write or create a piece of artwork on this year’s Black History Month theme, “Reclaiming Narratives”.   This theme marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. By emphasising this theme, it is hoped to shine a brighter light on stories, allegories, and histories that underscore our commitment to correcting historical inaccuracies and showcasing the untold success stories and the full complexity of Black heritage.

The students' works will be on display at The Black History Month Showcase which is taking place on Thursday 24th October from 4.00pm to 5.30pm.

On arrival, you will be greeted by music from the Caribbean and served mocktails at the "Dore's and Shaw's Mocktail Bar", other food and drink will be on sale throughout the evening, and you can join in a game or two of dominoes.  There will be a 'Caribbean style hair salon' where hair braiding will be taking place or hair being wrapped - come and see how many styles there are available.  This year there will be a fashion show featuring cultural or traditional dress to which all students and staff have been  invited to participate in.

There will also be a lucky dip, all proceeds of which will be donated to 'Oscar Birmingham' a voluntary organisation that supports people with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Disorders in Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Please note that this is a ticket only event and if you would like to attend please email skaur@holyhead.crst.org.uk..  Each ticket holder will be entitled to one free Mocktail on arrival.  If you would like a ticket, please ask your child to see Miss Kaur in the Events Office or please email Miss Kaur directly at skaur@holyhead.crst.org.uk.  The deadline for requests will be noon, Wednesday 23rd October.

We look forward to you joining us again this year to celebrate the work your child has been involved with.

Yours faithfully,

Dave Knox
Principal
