Faculty Intent

In MFL, we strive to offer a rich, ambitious and holistic curriculum that caters for all types of learners. We endeavour to give our students the opportunity to experience success in French/Spanish. We also give students who speak another language the opportunity to independently gain academic accreditation for their knowledge of that language. With the study of French and Spanish, we aim develop linguistic competency with increased spontaneity, independence and accuracy. Our intent is to broaden students' horizons allowing them to go beyond cultural boundaries while developing personal fulfilment from being the best linguist they can be.

Subject Intent

Through an 'identity' journey, our French/Spanish curriculum exposes students to the linguistic skills and knowledge needed to develop linguistic competence. We aim to develop our students' language skills providing opportunities to make progress in speaking, listening, reading and writing, with a sound foundation of core grammar, vocabulary and phonics. Our pedagogy is underpinned by nurturing a 'I can do' attitude and we want to instil a lasting interest in a language learning. While taking part in enjoyable enrichment activites in and out of the classroom, French and Spanish students gain a new and broader perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own culture and those of others. Our intent is to enable language students to progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, phonics and grammatical structures, organised around interleaving topics to allow them to effectively communicate for practical purposes.
