Autumn/Spring Term Dates Update Letter

25 November 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

We hope you and your families are keeping well as we move towards the end of term. The purpose of this letter is to flag up some key dates and events for the remainder of this half-term and the year ahead.

The upcoming events to be reminded of include the scheduled CPD day in December, updates on Year 9 and Year 11 Subject Parents’ Evenings, the Curriculum Review meetings with students finishing earlier at 1.45pm on those days, and the end of Autumn term / start of Spring term arrangements.

December CPD Day – Friday 3rd December

A reminder that there is a CPD day scheduled to take place for all staff on Friday 3rd December and the school will be closed to all students. The remaining CPD days will be held on Tuesday 4th January 2022, Monday 25th April at the start of the Spring and Summer terms, and Tuesday 12th July.

Year 9 Subject Parents’ Evening – School Cloud on Thursday 9th December, 4-7pm

With the increasing number of COVID cases locally and nationally, and the holidays ahead, we have taken the decision to move the Year 9 Subject Parents’ Evening on Thursday 9th December to a remote event using School Cloud. More information for Year 9 parents will be available soon with guidance on how to book appointments and use the School Cloud system which can be accessed via any internet enabled device, including student chromebooks.

Year 11 Subject Parents’ Evening on Thursday 6th January 2022, 4-7pm

We have taken the decision to host the Year 11 Subject Parents’ Evening in January on site, however, appointments will be spread around the school rather than in the Sports Hall and Dining Hall as previously. More information for Year 11 parents will be available in December with guidance on how to book appointments, and COVID secure guidelines for the evening.

Curriculum Review Meetings: Early finishes at 1.45pm

A crucial element of our planning to support continued student progress are the Curriculum Review meetings which subject teams hold following each set of termly assessments. We have retained the principle of students finishing earlier on these days to enable teachers to have extended time to work collaboratively in their teams to review assessments and make adaptations to the curriculum moving forwards, but we have significantly reduced the number of these taking place in the year.

The three upcoming Curriculum Review meetings with earlier finishes at the end of this term and the first half-term in Jan/Feb are on:

  • Tuesday 14th December – KS3 Curriculum Review
  • Wednesday 12th January – Year 11 & Year 13 Curriculum Review
  • Thursday 10th February – Year 10 & Year 12 Curriculum Review

On all of these occasions, students will leave the school site via their normal exit gate at 1.45pm. To ensure that there is a consistent standard of remote learning provided on these days we will not only be asking teachers to post resources and assignments on Google Classroom for their Period 4 lessons when they are in Curriculum Review meetings, but also to provide instructions in person to students at the beginning of Period 4 before they are dismissed at 1.45pm.

End of Autumn term / Start of Spring term arrangements

Students will be breaking up for the holidays at 12 noon on Friday 17th December after attending Periods 1 and 2 as normal and an extended Tutor time. Students eligible for a Free School Meal will be able to collect one before leaving the school site.

All students will be returning to school after the holidays at 8.45am on Wednesday 5th January.

We thank you again for your time in reading this and wish you and your family good health.

Mr R Trafford, Principal & Mr D Knox, Deputy Principal
